Welcome! For adults seeking to become Catholic, the Church has a process of Christian initiation that facilitates ongoing conversion. Catechumens (those seeking baptism) and Candidates (those already baptized in a different Christian tradition) grow in their understanding of what it means to be a disciple of Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church in the midst of the community before being fully initiated into the Catholic Church.
What this looks like will vary for each individual, but the goal is that each person will be well-equipped to make this important step in their journey of faith.
The Order of Christian Initiation process is appropriate for:
- Any person who is unbaptized and wishes to be a full member of the Church.
- Any person who may have been baptized in the Catholic Church, but has not recieved any other sacraments yet (First Communion, Confirmation, etc).
- Any person baptized in another Christian faith community who wishes to become Catholic.
- Any person of good will who would like to inquire more about the Catholic faith.
OCIA participants who wish to receive the Sacraments and become Catholic will eventually need a sponsor: a practicing Catholic who is knowlegdable of the Church's teachings and who can serve as a role model during this time of preparation. If you do not know of anyone who can sponsor you, we will gladly ask a parishioner on your behalf.
Wherever you are in your journey-- whether you have made up your mind to become Catholic, or are just beginning to discern this decision-- we invite you to "come and see." (John 1:39) We look forward to meeting you!
