Immaculate Conception opened as a mission in LaGrange, Kentucky for Irish railroad workers in the mid-1800s. The first church was located on North Street with a capacity for 300 people. In 1950 construction of a connected church and school began on North Fifth Avenue, and in 1962, Immaculate Conception attained parish status with 65 families in attendance.
In 2002 ground was broken for the current complex that includes a church with a seating capacity of 1,100. In 2007 the school at Immaculate Conception closed to merge with another parish school to become St. Mary Academy in Prospect, KY.
Today Immaculate Conception is a bustling community of over 3000 parishioners from all walks of life, with Masses celebrated in English and Spanish. As Catholics, we worship not only as a local congregation, but in communion with Catholics all over the world and with all the saints in heaven. Full of gratitude for the faith and prayers of all past parishioners who have labored for Christ’s kingdom at IC, we press forward as a community toward Christ and our heavenly home. We do this by prayer, celebration of the Eucharist and other Sacraments, and love of our neighbor.
Although Immaculate Conception looks much different outwardly than it did 170 years ago, our mission remains the same: to follow Christ and invite others to join us on the journey. If you’re new to the area and considering joining our parish, we look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to the Immaculate Conception family!
